BUILDING GODLY CHARACTER

POSITIVE CHARACTER TRAITS

1. Honesty**: Honesty goes beyond merely telling the truth; it involves living truthfully. It means being straightforward and trustworthy in all your interactions, relationships, and thoughts.

   - 2 Corinthians 8:21: "Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men."

2. Integrity**: Integrity is about being truthful to yourself, while honesty is about being truthful to others. It involves doing the right thing even when no one is watching and choosing thoughts and actions based on values rather than personal gain.

   - Proverbs 11:3: "The integrity of the upright shall guide them but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them."

3. Respectfulness**: This trait involves treating yourself and others with courtesy, kindness, dignity, and gentleness. It reflects a basic respect for the worth of all people and an acceptance of our inherent flaws.

4. Responsibility**: This personal trait involves following through on commitments and proactively creating or accepting accountability for your behavior and choices.

5. Humility**: Humility is one of the most beautiful virtues and greatest qualities a person can possess. It is the absence of pride and arrogance.

   - James 4:6: "But he gives more grace. Therefore he says, 'God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.'"

   - Humility opens more doors than arrogance and pride. We come closest to greatness when we are great in humility. Pride makes us artificial, but humility makes us real.

6. Compassion**: This trait involves deep sympathy and pity for the suffering and misfortune of others, along with a desire to help alleviate their suffering.

7. Kindness**: Kindness is the attribute of being considerate, helpful, and benevolent to others.

   - Ephesians 4:32: "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."

8. Self-discipline**: This trait involves using good habits or willpower to overcome desires or feelings. It requires a strong sense of self-control to reach a desired goal. By practicing self-discipline and self-control, you can develop great character. Your level of success is determined by your level of discipline; without self-discipline, success is impossible.
